The government on Monday provided new assistance to troubled insurance giant American International Group, including pouring $40 billion into the company in return for partial ownership.
These sorry b_tches need to use VTC capabilities and stay at headquarters to conduct business conferences until all the dust settles. I can not wait until all the golden parachutes run out so we can take our dreams and goals back here in the US. Retreat? I can't even afford Dog Treats!!....
I worry most about the fact that one company's failure could have such supposedly devastating effects on the whole U.S. economy. I think that says something about needing to limit the financial influence of single entities. AIG just intentionally or unintentionally blackmailed the U.S. Federal Government into paying them off.
well first off I think when people run out of money, we have to file chapter 13 and all that crap. how come the banks dont have to do that? i dont have any money and prolly never will. i cant ever get a loan from any bank for nothin if i tried they would tell me i have tried to many times so that brings my credit score down, so why should i have to come up out my pocket to help some big company get back on they feet? i just wanna know. can i get a bail out??? i never made a bad decition in my life to mess my credit up, and why cant them people that are spending all that money get charged for somethin and do life in jail?? thats all i wanna know. because i see people misusing money all the time and going to jail for it, so what makes them so different? is it the Bi_tc_che that gave um the money and nobody ever talks about it. wats up wit that? these people make me sick, give me another stimulos check. wit 5 grand or somethin. i need to pay my car off. make it 30 grand and i wont say a word.
I agree with those who feel the bailout should be renamed "AIG's rescue plan." Regardless if it is well deserved or not, we could have done more with this money. Here is my thing. No one wants to blame" the banks/lenders. They want to blame those darn poor people for robbing the banks by forcing them to lend them money they knew darn well they couldn't repay. How were the banks supposed to know this! Honestly, they just took those darn poor people on their word. There was no way to check their credit, income, or ask for a down payment! Let's face it people, it is a business's goal to make a profit by fees and interest rates. They are to blame too. I understand the fed.'s desire to help them so they don't fail. However, who is going to borrow the money once they are bailed out? The rich have been burned-at least I know many who lost a ton at the exchange and the middle-class can't take on any more loans. Wouldn't it have made sense to develop a consumer credit bailout. Instead of mailing checks to Americans, we could have had Americans applied for debt to be paid. A set figure that the government would have paid directly to the lenders. I am really over-simplifying it but humour me. Then the government would look at the accounts or loans applied for to see if the consumer should have that loan/credit closed with a positive reflection on their credit report or readjusted to a feasible amount. Maybe Suzie shouldn't have been given a $12,000 line of credit at 0% for six months when it is now 28.5% and Suzie can't afford it? People say the government can't interfere with the credit card companies because they may no longer lend to those who can't easily get credit-yeah-isn't that how this mess started. Why is that such a bad idea?
All I know is that my family is in a spending freeze. We don't eat out, we don't charge, and if we don't need it-we don't buy it. If I get another stimulus it will go to bills-not to spend more. The Republicans don't get it. They focus on the "haves". Unfortunately there are a lot more "have-nots". Didn't the election show them that. Do something big. Let American's think that a republican did something good. Go out with a bang. I don't understand why they would continue to look like this.
So, in summary, I think we can bail all the banks out that we want. If we don't save the middle class; we will all loose. Like it or not, that's where the attention should be. Not at the banks, maybe the auto industry-although again we need people to have money to buy a car, but at the people whose money the rich and businesses need. If the middle-class wins-we all win-banks included.
I agree. The middle class is the smallest it has ever been and we can no longer pay for the poor, the retired, the disabled and the "rich". I work in non-profits and help people every day who work hard for everylittle thing they have. These people can not afford to put anyone else on their backs, AIG, FannyMae, the government or others. Lets not forget who we are trusting to get us out of this, our government has been our own personal AIG for almost a decade now.... We have bailed them out more times than I can count. When everyone is tightening our belts, are the policy makers? I don't have a MBA in accounting but this housing crisis was written on the wall years ago.
Yes the big companies and our government continue to piss away money because they don't have to work for it. They keep us fighting with each other over who was more at fault, which party, which CEO, which bill...... Keep us occupied while we continue to give out money hand over fist. Wonder how long before we pay for an inquiry into all of this, that will make us all feel better, oh for another couple million. In the end we all squandered money. My community is made up of people living in homes they couldn't afford, driving cars they don't own, buying groceries on credit. We all had big eyes and now we pay for it. Middle income folk that bought a house with 10% down, drive 5 year old cars and shop sales are the ones that will pay to keep AIG and the mortgage companies and banks in suits, and my neighbors in their 3,000 sq ft homes with a Denali and a boat. We wouldn't want them to lose their new home they didn't work so hard for yet but were planning on refinancing when the market rose above the already inflated prices they bought their home for. It is tiring to watch, tiring to listen to and tiring to watch us all scream at each other over....
Why do you keep blaming Bush! Do you really think that 1 man has that much power? That he made all these decisions all by himself and then passed 'em all by himself? COME ON! I DO believe we've had a democratic Congress for a while now - don't you think they probably had a little something to do with this?? Bush really doesn't deserve all the blame and if you don't believe me... let's just see how the next administration does. I really hope they can do better and clean up this mess but I really don't think we're going to see that happen for quite a while!!!
GET THIS folks.... A few minutes ago on CBS radio the story was told that AIG is going to be using some of the bailout money to fight the IRS over the taxes that AIG owes!!!! Something in the vicinity of $300 million in taxes but they have decided to use taxpayer provided money to try to get out of paying what they owe... (WKYW News Radio - Philadelphia at 9:30am)... Add this to the list of abuses with taxpayer money.. When is the government going to wake up - smarten up and tell AIG to clean up its act and expect no more of our money for thier continuing saga of misuse and abuse....
I'm thinking AIG better start re-evauating rather quickly. Those at the top need not take a penny in any additional money other than their salaries. It would be certain death for the company. As a CEO of a multi-million dollar company, I always put myself last.
This country is the greatest in the world and crooks are not only stealing our money but rubbing it in our face and still nothing is being done about it, not one indictment for fraud or grand larceny has been issued fot stealing our money. We went from 155 billion in reserves to trillions in debt with Bush at the helm. Sound like an Aig scandel to me! And the kicker for it all is the american middle class is going to pay for it and we are not getting nothing out of it. What does the future hold for us little people the government is trying to snuff out!
Don't give my tax dollar to the "Big 3" that have been woefully slow in responding to quality and economic performance issues (and I drive Fords, go figure). Give my share to companies like Tesla that are building high performance electric cars so they can mass produce and get the price down from a 100 grand, so us "regular folks" can afford one.
